Nuclear currently accounts for almost half of Europe’s of low-carbon electricity and more than a quarter of all electricity in the region. According to FORATOM, the association for the nuclear energy industry in Europe, the technology can also support most of the additional efforts needed to reach the EU’s new -55% emission reduction objective. At the same time, projects currently under development have suffered significant time and cost overruns.

Neil Griffiths-Lambeth is an Associate Managing Director in Moody’s Infrastructure Finance team, based in London, and responsible for the rating agency’s coverage of regulated and unregulated utilities across EMEA. Over the course of his career at Moody’s, Neil has acted as lead analyst for a broad range of utilities and transport infrastructure companies. He has followed the UK water sector since 2008, writing extensively on regulatory and other developments and playing a key role in developing the rating agency’s strong reputation in the sector. As an authoritative independent commentator, Neil is a frequent speaker at conferences and other events. Moody’s has a leading global Infrastructure Finance franchise, rating some US$2 trillion of corporate and project finance securities, representing more than 90% of all public bonds issued globally in the sector. 140 analytical sector staff cover more than 1,000 infrastructure issuers globally. Moody’s EMEA team of 50 specialists is responsible for rating around 416 issuers. The rating agency covers more than 11,000 corporate issuers and 135 sovereign nations. Prior to joining Moody’s in 2007, Neil spent 15 years at Lazard. Over this period he advised a broad range of clients on raising finance in the public and private markets. Notable transactions included advising the UK Government on support and funding for Network Rail, Veolia on the acquisition and highly-leveraged financing of Southern Water, and Wind Telecommunicazioni on funding for its network roll-out. Neil read Mathematics at the University of Sussex and pursued postgraduate research at Imperial College, London.
Jessica Johnson is currently the Communications & EU Stakeholders Director of FORATOM, the European Atomic Forum, a position which she has held since 2017. Her role includes the development of internal & external communications strategies, event organisation, drafting of press releases, publications and other communications tools. She is also responsible for liaising with different EU stakeholders such as the European Parliament, trade unions and NGOs.
Furthermore, she works closely with the policy managers to ensure that advocacy and communications go hand in hand for effective lobbying at EU level. This includes mapping of stakeholders (in particular key influencers), messaging for broader audiences and development of relevant communication tools, as well as ensuring FORATOM and its members speak with one voice at EU and national level.
She currently also handles all issues relating to sustainability including, but not limited to, sustainable finance, raw materials impacts, land use, the circular economy and the sustainable finance initiative.
Prior to joining FORATOM, she was in charge of communications at CEMBUREAU, the trade association representing the cement industry at EU level, a role which she held for ten years.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Modern Languages (Spanish and Italian) from the University of Manchester. In addition, she holds a Masters in Conference Interpreting. A British national, she has lived in the UK, Spain and Italy and currently resides in Belgium. She is a native English speaker and is fluent in Spanish, French and Italian.
Yves Desbazeille is French and graduated in electrical engineering from the Ecole Supérieure d’Electricité (“SUPELEC”) in France in 1991 and studied on an MBA program in the early 2000s. During his successful career, he has been involved in different businesses and responsibilities at EDF: nuclear engineering, hydro and thermal power projects management in France, USA as well as in Asia, where he was for 5 years. His previous position as EDF representative for energy in Brussels has provided him with an in-depth knowledge of the EU institutions and Brussels’ stakeholders and of the energy and climate stakes for Europe.
FORATOM is the Brussels-based trade association for the nuclear energy industry in Europe. FORATOM acts as the voice of the European nuclear industry in energy policy discussions with EU institutions and other key stakeholders. The membership of FORATOM is made up of 15 national nuclear associations.
Joe is Sizewell C Financing Programme Manager. He has worked at EDF Energy for six years initially in a Corporate Strategy position before moving to the Sizewell C project. At Sizewell C, Joe is working on the development of a new nuclear regulated asset base (RAB) funding model with the UK Government and engagement with potential equity investors and lenders to secure the project’s financing requirements.
