On December 7th, Moody's published ESG scores for around 220 Financial Institutions, across different sectors.
These scores follow the publication of the FIG Appendix to Moody’s ESG methodology, covering financial institutions, including multilateral development banks.
In this session, Moody’s analysts will review the main drivers of scores and provide some highlights.

Brandan is a Vice President – Senior Credit Officer in the EMEA Insurance Team, with analytical responsibility for a range of (re)insurance ratings across the EMEA region.
Brandan joined Moody’s New York office in 2010, as an analyst responsible for a diverse portfolio of US insurance and reinsurance companies. Prior to joining Moody’s, he was Assured Guaranty Ltd., responsible for accounting policy and transaction advisory services. Brandan started his career with PricewaterhouseCoopers in South Africa, later transferring to the New York office where he was a manager in the Assurance practice, primarily responsible for the audits of life insurance companies.
Brandan holds a Bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Pretoria and a MBA in finance from New York University’s Stern School of Business. He is a Chartered Accountant (SA) and a Certified Public Accountant (NY).
Neal has over twenty years of experience workingwith asset management firms, as an investment banker, analyst, and portfoliomanager. He joined Moody’s Funds & Asset Management team in 2011, where hefocuses on credit analysis of asset management firms and industry research.Previously, he was a Managing Director at Proctor Investment Managers, aprivate equity investor in the asset management industry, where he led managerresearch and due diligence efforts. Earlier, Neal was a Vice President andDirector of Research at Putnam Lovell Securities, where he focused on assetmanager research and industry strategy. Mr. Epstein earned an M.B.A. and M.A.in Asian Studies from the Darden Graduate School of Business Administration atthe University of Virginia, an M.A. in Economics from Columbia University and aB.A. in Philosophy from Swarthmore College. A Chartered Financial Analyst, heis a member of the CFA Society of New York and the CFA Institute.
Rebecca is a Vice President – Senior Credit Officer in Moody’s Sustainable Finance group, where she leads thought leadership on the impact of environmental, social and governance factors on credit and capital markets. In her role, Rebecca is responsible for the coordination and execution of the Sustainable Finance group’s thematic research program and market outreach activities. She also serves as a visible subject matter expert to internal and external stakeholders and supports outreach and engagement with strategic partners.
Prior to joining the ESG team, Rebecca was a member of the Strategy and Research team at MIS, where she led cross-sector research and analytics on the credit implications of key macroeconomic and policy developments in North America. Rebecca first joined Moody’s in 2011 as an associate analyst in the Sovereign Risk Group.
She holds a dual Master’s Degree in International Affairs from Columbia University (SIPA), in New York, and Institut d’Etudes Politiques (Sciences Po), in Paris, as well as a BA in International Relations from the University of Pennsylvania.
Simon Harris is Managing Director for Global Financial Institutions, based in London. He is responsible for Moody’s analytic teams maintaining Moody’s ratings on banks and finance companies, re/insurers and funds and asset management globally.
Simon joined Moody’s European Insurance team in 1998, working on analysis of UK and German life and non-life insurance groups, and prior to his current role held various managerial responsibilities, including EMEA Insurance, Nordic Banking and Global Insurance and Managed Investments.
Prior to joining Moody’s, Simon was an actuary with Co-operative Financial Services in Manchester, England. Simon holds a B.A. in Economics from Leeds University, and is a Fellow of the UK Institute of Actuaries (FIA).
Megan Fox is an Associate Managing Director in the Financial Institutions Group of Moody’s Ratings covering a portfolio of US regional and community banks. She joined Moody’s in 2011.
Prior to joining Moody’s, Megan held positions with Freddie Mac, primarily within the Finance department. She holds an honors degree in Economics and Political Science from the University of Delaware.
In addition, Megan was Moody’s 2020 Women’s Bond Club Rising Star award holder. She has previously participated in various roles in the Women’s BRG and the Generational BRG, including co-chair from 2018-2020. Megan has been a mentor in Moody’s Bridging the Gap Program and is currently an ACP mentor through the Veteran’s BRG.
Carola Schuler is a Managing Director in the Europe, Middle East and Africa banking team, based in Frankfurt. In this capacity, she is responsible for Moody’s analytical teams that rate banks primarily in the UK, the Eurozone and Central and Eastern Europe as well as non-bank financial companies across Europe. Carola has extensive experience in credit analysis and managing credit professionals.
Furthermore, Carola plays a leading role in Moody’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) integration efforts. Moody’s is committed to incorporating ESG risks into its credit analysis and Carola is one of Moody’s global coordinators of ESG analytical, research and outreach initiatives for financial institutions.
Prior to joining Moody’s in 2008, Carola was a Director at the credit risk management division of Deutsche Bank where she worked in a number of different analytical and managerial functions in Germany and abroad, covering corporate finance, leveraged finance, financial institutions and sovereign risk across Europe, including time spent in Brussels (Belgium).
Carola has a double German-French Diploma in Business Administration from Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft des Saarlandes (HTW), Saarbrücken /Germany and the University of Metz/ France.
Alessandro Roccati joined Moody’s in May 2012 as a Senior Vice President in the Financial Institutions Group, based in London. His portfolio includes large European banks. Prior to joining Moody’s, Alessandro spent fifteen years in equity research as a senior analyst covering European banks at global investment banks: Macquarie, Man Group, Credit Lyonnais and Nikko Securities. He started his career as a credit analyst covering European banks at UniCredito. Alessandro graduated in economics from Bocconi University in Milan.
