Dr. Kobsak Pootrakool is Director and Senior Executive Vice President at Bangkok Bank, one of Thailand’s largest commercial banks. Prior to joining the bank, He served as Minister attached to the Prime Minister’s Office of Thailand, supervising the Board of Investment, the National Economic and Social Development Council, the National Research Council, as well as the Office of SMEs Promotion. He had also served as a former Vice Minister of the Prime Minister’s Office as well as a former member of the Constitution Drafting Committee before being appointed as the Minister.
From 2010 to 2015, Dr. Kobsak worked at Bangkok Bank as a Chief Economist and an Executive Vice President, International Banking Group. He achieved several projects including banking license approval from the Central Bank of Myanmar in 2015.
From 1996 to 2010, he had worked with the Bank of Thailand and the Stock Exchange of Thailand. He helped develop and implement the monetary policy and financial institution policy. He was an Executive of the Monetary Policy Strategy Division and seconded to SET from 2008 to 2009 as Senior Vice President in Strategic Planning Department. He also served as an Executive Director of the SET Research Institute for Capital Market.
Dr. Kobsak’s awards include the Puay Ungpakorn Medal in 2009, given to the best young economist in Thailand. He has published extensively within Thailand and internationally. He also is a frequent media commentator.
Dr. Kobsak holds a PhD in macroeconomics and international economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a BA in mathematics and economics from Williams College.
