Alain Laurin is an Associate Managing Director in the Financial Institutions group with responsibility for ratings on banks in France, the Benelux, Italy and Iberia.
Prior to joining Moody’s in August 2008, Alain was at Banque of France for 25 years where he held several positions in the International department – including a seven-year secondment to the World Bank – and at the Banking Commission where he was Director of off-site supervision between 2006 and 2008.
Alain holds a Master Degree in Economics (University of Bordeaux) and Sciences Po (Bordeaux).

Nicolas Théry, Chairman of Crédit Mutuel, Europe’s ninth-biggest banking group, has enjoyed a
unique career. A graduate of France’s École Nationale d’Administration, he spent the first part of
his working life in the civil service in the Inspectorate of Finances and the Treasury. As a senior
civil servant in the finance ministry, he was an advisor to Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the Minister
of the Economy and Finance, and then chief of staff to the Budget Secretary, Florence Parly.
As a fervent proponent of good industrial relations, he then took up a role with the CFDT
(Confédération française démocratique du travail), France’s largest national labor organization,
working under its leader Nicole Notat as Confederation Secretary for Economic Affairs.
A committed European, Théry subsequently joined the European Commission as chief of staff to
the EU Trade Commissioner, Pascal Lamy. He then worked in the Directorate-General for
Enterprise before serving as Director at the EU Directorate-General for the Environment, where
he was in charge of negotiations with the Member States and the European Parliament.
Nicolas Théry joined Crédit Mutuel in 2009 and performed numerous roles within the mutual
banking group before becoming chairman in 2016.

Olivier Panis is an Associate Managing Director in the EMEA Financial Institutions Group based in Paris, covering a portfolio of European Global Investment Banks (GIBs) and other banks in France and Benelux.
Olivier joined Moody’s in Dubai in 2013 where he assumed responsibility for a portfolio of financial institutions in the Gulf Cooperation Countries (GCC) and North Africa. Prior to joining Moody’s in 2013, he was heading the Portfolio Management team for Corporate Banking Emerging Markets at Barclays. He started his career as a financial analyst at the French Ministry of Finance in Paris. Olivier Panis holds a MSc in Economics from the Université PARIS I (Sorbonne).

Mr. Madelain has joined the IFRS Foundation in January 2018 as a Trustee and has been taking an active role in the engagement of the IFRS Foundation to develop global sustainability standards. He is a member of the Supervisory Board of La Banque Postale in France since April 2018. Mr. Madelain has also served as director of China Construction Bank Corporation since January 2020. From June 2016 to December 2018, Mr. Madelain was vice chairman of Moody’s Investors Service Corporation (MIS) a leading global provider of credit ratings, research, and risk analysis. Concurrently, he served as chairman of Moody’s European Boards and was a member of MIS US Board. From May 2008 to June 2016, he was president and chief operating officer of MIS , having previously assumed a number of positions in Europe and the USA with MIS from 1994 to May 2008.
From May 1980 to May 1994, he worked with Ernst & Young in the European office in Belgium and France and was promoted to the partnership in 1989. Mr. Madelain is a Qualified Chartered Accountant of France. He obtained a master’s degree in management from Kellogg Graduate School of Management of Northwestern University (USA) and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the Ecole Supérieure de Commerce de Rouen, France.
Robert Ophèle, graduated from the ESSEC business school, joined the Banque de France in 1981 and
spent three years in banking supervision before joining the Monetary Studies and Statistics Directorate as
an economist, specialising in the interaction between financial market developments and monetary
policy Following a secondment to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York between 1990 and 1991 he
returned to the Banque de France as Head of the Budget Division, and subsequently took up the position
of Director of the Management Control and Budget Directorate In this role, he represented the Banque
de France on various Eurosystem committees
In July 2006 he was appointed Deputy Director General Economics and International Relations, with
responsibility for monetary policy issues and for the Bank’s collaboration with universities In June 2009
he was promoted to the position of Director General Operations, and took charge of market operations,
the oversight of French payment systems, financial stability and costumer banking services While in this
post, he actively participated in the work of various financial bodies (Chairman of the National SEPA
Committee, Chairman of the Paris Robustesse group and of the Market Infrastructure group)
The 6 January 2012 Robert Ophèle became Second Deputy Governor of the Banque de France, and was
appointed by the Governor to represent him as Chairman of the Autorité de contrôle prudentiel et de
résolution (French Prudential Supervision and Resolution Authority ACPR) He became a member of the
college of the Autorité des marchés financiers (French Financial Markets Authority AMF) and of the
Supervisory Mechanism Robert Ophèle was the AMF Chairman from August 2017 to July 2022
Robert Ophèle is Chairman of the French Accounting Standard Authority since February 2023
