Isfandyar Zaman Khan is the Lead Specialist, for Finance, Competitiveness and Innovation for East Africa. Prior to his current assignment he worked as a Program Leader for the Central/Eastern Europe and the Baltic Countries. He leads on work related to the for the Financial Sector, Business Environment, Competitive Industries, and Innovation with a focus on Financial Sector Crisis Management & Stability, Sustainability Issues (Greening, Climate Finance, Carbon) and access to finance. He has worked on a diverse set of countries such as Armenia, Bosnia, China, Croatia, Kenya, Malawi, Pakistan, Poland, Romania, Turkey and Ukraine. Prior to the Bank, Mr. Zaman Khan worked for Salomon Smith Barney in New York. Mr Zaman Khan holds a degree in Economic Policy Making and International Finance from Columbia University in New York.
Naomi is a senior economist in the Macroeconomics, Trade and Investment Global Practice at the World Bank. Her work focuses on macroeconomics and fiscal policy analysis and leads the work on economic monitoring which culminates in the bi-annual publication of the Kenya Economic Update which provide an overview of recent developments and forecasts of major macroeconomic variables. She also co-leads work on the development policy operations that provide rapidly disbursing financing for budget support . Prior to joining the Bank, she was the deputy director of Research and knowledge Management at the Commission on Revenue Allocation and a policy analyst at the Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis. Naomi holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Cape Town.
Matthew is a multisector credit ratings expert. Since 2008 he has specialised in African capital markets. In 2018, Matthew was appointed as the Group Head of Ratings at GCR Ratings. GCR is an emerging market-focused Credit Rating Agency, and an affiliate of Moody’s Investor Services, with around 525 ratings across the continent originating from offices in South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal, and Mauritius.
Matthew has authored numerous cross sector criteria pieces and remains the main custodian of the GCR Ratings Framework, a structure which allows for improved transparency, differentiation, and comparability of ratings in an Emerging Market context. He has worked on ratings in over 25 African countries, including the African Development Bank, African Reinsurance Corporation, the Republic of Botswana, and Standard Bank of South Africa, among others. He also rated the first Nigerian bank eurobond, the first Basel 3 compliant subordinated debt issue out of South Africa, and the new African Bank Ltd. (South Africa) at the commencement of its resolution.
Matthew has also rated a significant number of companies going into, or emerging from, a default or a distressed restructuring and is a specialist on debt covenants and their consequences. As a result, the focus on Management and Governance in GCR ratings framework is created on a flagging-based system which captures changes in behaviour rather than static gaps.
Tanya Dos Santos-Ford is a dedicated mother, passionate sustainability leader and ardent conservationist. Tanya is currently working as Adjunct Faculty at the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) responsible for Climate Leadership and Sustainability. She is also a Senior Advisor to Emergent Africa on sustainability matters. Tanya sits on the Board of the Compliance Institute Southern Africa (CISA) and its Social Ethics Remuneration and Nominations (SERN) Committee. Tanya was previously the Global Head of Sustainability for the Investec Group having joined the bank in 2001 in Investor Relations and then Group Strategy. In 2011 she assumed full responsibility for Sustainability function and was also the Head of Investec Rhino Lifeline which helps to raise awareness and funds for endangered wildlife. Tanya is passionate about human rights and the Sustainable Development Goals having represented Investec on the board of the UN Global Compact local network in South Africa and on the UN Global Investors for Sustainable Development.
In 2021, Tanya was included in the Standard Bank Women of the Year awards and recognised as a South African Woman Leader in the World Women Leadership Awards. In the same year, her personal story of “Finding the right balance in leadership” was published in the book, Write to Speak. Tanya was also a finalist in the Risk Insights Sustainability Practitioner Award (2020).
After starting in Mergers and Acquisitions at BNP Paribas in London and New York and setting up funding platforms for Small and Medium enterprises (SMEs) in an independent Structuring advisory firm in Paris, he joined the Structured Finance department of Fitch Ratings in Paris and subsequently in the South African office. Yohan rated a wide portfolio of securitisations and other Structured Finance instruments (e.g. Covered bonds) across various assets classes (ABS, RMBS, ABCP, CLNs etc.) and jurisdictions (France, UK, Spain, Belgium, Luxembourg, South Africa etc.).
Yohan then moved to Investec Bank Ltd as a Debt Capital Markets Structurer. His mandate was to set up additional funding platforms for the Private Bank division of the bank as well as its external clients. In 2011, Yohan joined the Debt Capital Markets team of the Transaction Capital Group. He participated to the listing of the Bayport Medium Term Note Programme and set up recurring funding platforms for Transaction Capital’s subsidiary SA Taxi.
In 2017, Yohan joined GCR Ratings as Group Head of its Structured Finance Ratings department where he manages GCR’s portfolio of Structured Finance transactions across Africa and is responsible for the development of GCR’s rating methodologies. He also heads the West African office of GCR.
Isaah is the Chief Economist and Head of Research at RMB. Isaah has more than a decade of industry experience spanning both the public and private sector. He started his career as an economist at the International Monetary Fund in Pretoria and then moved to National Treasury’s economic policy unit. His private sector experience spans roles as an economist at Absa and then RMB, where he was responsible for macroeconomic strategy and forecasting before he joined Alexander Forbes as its Executive Chief Economist. Isaah holds a Master’s degree in financial economics and an Honours degree in econometrics both from the University of Johannesburg.

Isabella Burke is a Vice President Relationship Manager for Africa and is based in Johannesburg, South Africa. Isabella’s responsibilities encompass increasing coverage and revenue from new and existing customers in Southern and West Africa. Prior to joining Moody’s Investors Service, Isabella was covering South Africa as Business Development Manager for a London based hedge fund manager. She was tasked with introducing long-only and hedged solutions into the South African market. Isabella has a great depth and breadth of knowledge of capital markets ,having previously worked at Morgan Stanley, JP Morgan, Credit Suisse and Investec. Isabella studied at King’s College, London and is fluent in Italian and has basic French.
Nick Hill is a Managing Director co-responsible for Moody’s global bank ratings. Based in Paris, he joined Moody’s in March 2010. Nick led the revision of Moody’s bank rating methodology, which was republished in 2015.
Prior to joining Moody’s, Nick worked as a bank analyst in a variety of roles. These include banking supervision at the Bank of England and Financial Services Authority, where he began his career; sell-side equity research on French banks in a #1 ranked team at Morgan Stanley; rating UK and continental European banks at Standard & Poor’s; and providing balance sheet advice to financial institutions with RBS.
A graduate of Christ’s College, University of Cambridge in the UK, Nick holds an
MA in English, a diploma in French, and a postgraduate certificate in Finance from Birkbeck College, University of London.
Constantinos is a Senior Vice President and leads a team of analysts covering banks in Africa, the Middle East and the Balkans.
Since joining Moody’s Limassol-based banking team in 2005, Constantinos has followed banks as lead analyst in South Africa, Egypt, Ghana, Israel, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Montenegro, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. He has authored numerous articles covering the African and Balkan banking systems and is a regular speaker at regional conferences.
Prior to joining Moody’s, Constantinos worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers in London, both in audit and advisory. He holds a BSs in Economics from Queen Mary, London University and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
Stephen Long is a Managing Director and regional head of Europe, Middle East and Africa for Moody’s Investors Service. He also serves as MIS’s country manager for the United Kingdom. He is responsible for core business strategy, governance and oversight in the EMEA region. He is also responsible for policy and regulatory outreach and for overseeing and growing Moody’s investments in domestic credit rating agencies in EMEA. Before becoming regional head of EMEA, Stephen was co-responsible for Moody’s global bank ratings and was based in Hong Kong where he primarily focused on bank ratings in the Asia Pacific. Prior to joining Moody’s, Stephen worked at J.P. Morgan in London, Tokyo and Hong Kong in a variety of senior credit, research and rating advisory roles. He worked at Standard & Poor’s from 1990 to 1996 in London and Paris as a bank analyst. He began his career as a banking regulator at the Bank of England. Stephen is a graduate of the University of Oxford, where he read Philosophy, Politics and Economics.
Aurélien Mali is currently Vice President Senior Credit Officer. He acts as the firm’s expert in Africa. His position is a combined lead analyst and analytical outreach/credit ambassador role. As a member of the Sovereign Risk Group since August 2002, he was involved in Moody’s sovereign ratings in Europe and the Middle East at the beginning of his career. Over the last 8 years, he has been at the forefront of Moody’s growing footprint in Africa. He has been sovereign lead or backup analyst for almost all sovereign issuers and multilateral development banks we rate in Africa. Aurelien was relocated to our Dubai office early 2013 from our London office. Aurelien manages a research programme that supports the development of Moody’s reputation for analytical insight and excellence. He also assumes a greater role in participating in regular Moody’s and third-party conferences on the continent, Africa-related investor briefings, and undertaking analytical outreach to inform and explain Moody’s credit judgments. Aurelien also supports other Moody’s franchises using his unique experience and visibility across multiple sectors and asset classes in the region. Finally, he remains the lead/backup sovereign analyst for few countries including Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Angola and South Africa. Aurélien holds a BSc in Economics and a postgraduate degree (DEA) in Money, Finance and Banking from the Panthéon-Sorbonne University in Paris.
Scott Phillips is the Global Head of Emerging Markets Credit Strategy reporting to Atsi Sheth and based in London. He is responsible for a highly visible team that articulates MIS’s insights, analysis and thought-leadership on the global EM universe, which covers all elements of fixed-income credit – sovereign, corporates, financials, infrastructure and structured finance. Until July 2022, Scott was the Head of Strategy & Business Management at Moody’s, responsible for analyzing key capital market developments across MIS’s core geographies and new regions of strategic interest. He oversaw Moody’s investment in GCR Ratings, a domestic CRA in Africa, and served as Representative Director for both Midroog and MERIS, in Israel and Egypt respectively. Prior to joining Moody’s in London, Scott was an equity research analyst and started his career with Dresdner Kleinwort where he covered the European utility sector. His analytical career also took him to Ofgem (the UK energy regulator), UniCredit and BlackRock. Scott has a degree in Molecular & Cellular Biochemistry from the University of Oxford and is mid-way through a second Masters in Computer Science from the University of Bath.
Iker is an Analyst in the Moody’s EMEA Corporate Finance Group based in Dubai. He covers a diversified industry portfolio, with exposure in Turkey, Africa, and the Middle East.
He joined Moody’s Dubai office in 2022, and previously worked as an associate analyst in the Moody’s London office covering the leveraged finance industry with exposure to Business and Consumer Services, Healthcare, Airlines and Aerospace & Defense. Before that, he spent 2 years working in the consulting industry in Spain.
Iker holds a Masters Degree in Investment Management from Henley Business School. He also holds a BSc in Business Management from the University of Deusto and is a CFA charterholder since 2018.
Artem Frolov is a Vice President - Senior Credit Officer at Moody’s Investors Service in Moscow, covering a portfolio of oil and gas companies in Russia and CIS.
Artem joined Moody’s in 2011 after working at Fitch Ratings in Moscow for more than two years, covering telecommunications and real estate companies in Russia and CIS. Prior to that, Artem worked for 12 years at several banks in Moscow, specialising in project finance since 2004.
Artem holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the Finance Academy under the Government of Russia in Moscow.
Graham Taylor is a Vice President – Senior Credit Officer in Moody’s EMEA Infrastructure Finance team, based in London. He is responsible for a portfolio of regulated and unregulated utilities in the United Kingdom. As a senior member of the analytical team, Graham has contributed to and/or coordinated a number of publications, in particular on energy market issues, and is a frequent speaker at investor events. Prior to joining Moody’s in 2015, Graham was City Advisor to Ofwat, the English and Welsh water regulator, through the 2014 Price Review. He was previously an equity portfolio manager at Legal & General, where he managed long-only and long/short funds and was responsible for coverage of UK utilities, transport and leisure, and health care. Graham started his career in the investment banking division of Credit Suisse in New York. He is a graduate of Queen’s University, Canada, and is a CFA charter holder. Moody’s has a leading global Infrastructure Finance franchise, rating some US$2trillion of corporate and project finance securities, representing more than 90% of all public bonds issued globally in the sector. 140 analytical sector staff cover more than 1,000 infrastructure issuers globally. Moody’s EMEA team of 50 specialists is responsible for rating around 416 issuers. The rating agency covers more than11,000 corporate issuers and 135 sovereign nations.
