Michael West President Moody's Ratings

Mr. West has served as President of Moody’s Ratings since November 2019. Mike served as Managing Director—Head of MIS Ratings and Research from June 2016 to October 2019. Previously, Mike served as Managing Director—Head of Global Structured Finance from February 2014 to May 2016 and Managing Director—Head of Global Corporate Finance from January 2010 to January 2014. Earlier in his career, Mike was also responsible for the research strategy for the ratings businesses and before that led Corporate Finance for the EMEA Region, European Corporates and the EMEA leveraged finance business. Prior to joining Moody’s in 1998, Mike worked at Bank of America and HSBC in various credit roles.

Mark Zandi Chief Economist Moody's Analytics

Mark M. Zandi is chief economist of Moody’s Analytics, where he directs economic research. Moody’s Analytics, a subsidiary of Moody’s Corp., is a leading provider of economic research, data and analytical tools. Dr. Zandi is a co founder of the company Economy.com, which Moody’s purchased in 2005.

Dr. Zandi’s broad research interests encompass macroeconomics, financial market sand public policy. His recent research has focused on mortgage finance reform and the determinants of mortgage foreclosure and personal bankruptcy. He has analyzed the economic impact of various tax and government spending policies and assessed the appropriate monetary policy response to bubbles in asset markets.

A trusted adviser to policymakers and an influential source of economic analysis for businesses, journalists and the public, Dr. Zandi frequently testifies before Congress on topics including the economic outlook, the nation’s daunting fiscal challenges, the merits of fiscal stimulus, financial regulatory reform, and foreclosure mitigation.

Dr. Zandi conducts regular briefings on the economy for corporate boards, trade associations and policymakers at all levels. He is on the board of directors of MGIC, the nation’s largest private mortgage insurance company, and The Reinvestment Fund, a large CDFI that makes investments in disadvantaged neighborhoods. He is often quoted in national and global publications and interviewed by major news media outlets, and is a frequent guest on CNBC, NPR, Meet the Press, CNN, and various other national networks and news programs.

Dr. Zandi is the author of Paying the Price: Ending the Great Recession and Beginning a New American Century, which provides an assessment of the monetary and fiscal policy response to the Great Recession. His other book, Financial Shock: A 360º Look at the Subprime Mortgage Implosion, and How to Avoid the Next Financial Crisis, is described by the New York Times as the “clearest guide” to the financial crisis.

Dr. Zandi earned his B.S. from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and his PhD at the University of Pennsylvania. He lives with his wife and three children in the suburbs of Philadelphia.

Rahul Ghosh Managing Director – Global Head of Sustainable Finance Moody’s Ratings

Rahul Ghosh is Managing Director – Global Head of Sustainable Finance for Moody's Ratings.

Rahul leads global oversight for the credit rating agency’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) research and outreach strategy. In this capacity, he is responsible for co-ordinating high quality and impactful research exploring the credit implications of ESG, as well as digital and in-person outreach to meet the growing market needs of investors, issuers and other important stakeholders.

Rahul is a regular participant at high-profile industry working groups, market briefings, external conferences and media engagements. He is a member of the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures, a market-led initiative to develop a risk management and disclosure framework for nature-related risks. He has also represented Moody’s on the UN Principles for Responsible Investment's advisory committee on credit ratings and the Green and Social Bond Principles working groups. He has presented on the impact of climate change on emerging market sovereigns at the G20 Green Finance Study Group and on sustainable finance trends at the International Finance Corporation’s Global Debt Mobilization Conference.

Before his current role, Rahul oversaw Moody’s ESG Solutions Group outreach and engagement activities globally with the sustainability stakeholder community. He also previously worked in Moody’s Credit Strategy & Research team where he was responsible for thematic research and outreach on global emerging market (EM) credit trends. Prior to joining Moody’s in 2013, Rahul was the Head of Asia at BMI Research (Fitch Solutions) in Singapore, leading a team of macroeconomists and industry specialists in analysing sovereign risk, sector performance and the capital markets.

Rahul is a passionate impact leader for Moody’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives in London, chairing the pillar on “activating an environmentally sustainable future”. He holds a Masters degree in Economics from the University of Edinburgh and a Certificate in ESG Investing from the CFA Society of the UK.

Sonja Gibbs Managing Director and Head of Sustainable Finance, Global Policy Initiatives Institute of International Finance

Sonja leads the IIF’s work on sovereign debt policy and sustainable finance, focusing on research and advocacy for the Institute’s global membership across the financial services industry. Her research interests include global debt markets and risks to financial stability; sovereign debt stress and debt restructuring; the economic impact and financial market pricing of climate and ESG risks; and capital markets development in emerging markets. Her policy work on behalf of the IIF includes outreach and liaison efforts vis-à-vis the G20/G7, the Paris Club, the IMF/World Bank and other multilaterals, global regulators and standard setters, and the Central Banks and Supervisors Network for Greening the Financial System (NGFS), as well as the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ). She also serves on the boards of the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM), and of Egypt’s Regional Center for Sustainable Finance (RCSF).

Sonja has spent over 20 years in banking and financial markets, including sell-side research in London and New York as well as stints as an emerging markets economist and bank credit analyst in Vienna and Los Angeles. She is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), and has an MBA and BA from the University of California, Berkeley. Sonja’s work is widely cited in the financial press, and she is a regular speaker on global debt and sustainable finance policy issues at international conferences.

Michael Kashani Head of Sustainable Credit and Platforms Apollo Global Management

Michael Kashani joined Apollo Global Management October 2021, serving as the Head of Sustainable Credit and Platforms. Michael is responsible for supporting ESG integration across the Credit business as well as further incorporating ESG considerations into Apollo’s lending platforms and other non-majority equity stake investment processes.

Michael currently represents Apollo across several industry initiatives, including as the inaugural Steering Committee Chair of the ESG Integrated Disclosure Project.

Michael formally served as the Global Head of ESG Portfolio Management within the Fixed Income division at Goldman Sachs Asset Management. Within that role, Michael was responsible for coordinating the ESG integration efforts across all fixed income teams as well as serving as the lead portfolio manager for ESG focused mandates.

Michael was previously on the Goldman Sachs Asset Management municipal team as a senior research analyst covering healthcare, education and distressed municipalities and was instrumental in the developing its ESG capabilities as well.

Prior to his time at Goldman Sachs Asset Management, Michael worked as a credit analyst at American Capital Access and Standard & Poor’s, focusing predominantly within the healthcare and education sectors.

Judson Berkey Managing Director, Chief Sustainability Office UBS

Judson Berkey is a Managing Director in UBS’s Chief Sustainability Office. He has worked at UBS since 2003 on global risk, regulatory and compliance topics. He chairs the Institute of International Finance Sustainable Finance Working Group and is on the Taskforce for Nature-related Financial Disclosures and Capitals Coalition Advisory Board.

Yann Marin Secretary General Network for Greening the Financial System (NGFS)

Yann Marin has been appointed deputy director for financial stability at the Banque de France and NGFS Secretary General as of the 1st of June 2024. He is currently chairing the Climate Disclosure Workstream (IAIS) and he is also the vice-chair of the Climate Risk Steering Group (IAIS).

Previously, Yann Marin was the deputy director for international affairs at the ACPR, in charge of cross-sectoral issues, among which climate-related risks (2021-2024). He worked in the Financial stability board, leading the team on the Assessment of Vulnerabilities under Klaas Knot (DNB) as chair of the Standing Committee on the Assessment of Vulnerabilities (2016-2020). He also used to be the head of the financial stability and markets studies division in the Banque de France (2011-2016), and the representative of the Banque de France in Beijing, working as the financial counsellor of the French embassy (2008-2011). Previously, he worked in monetary policy implementation, as a market economist and team leader (2003-2008). He has a master’s degree in international economics and European macro-economics (1997 La Sorbonne and 2001 SciencesPo) and in political sciences (SciencesPo diploma, 2000).

Viola Lutz Senior Director, Climate Strategy Moody's

Viola Lutz is Senior Director, Climate Strategy at Moody’s. Viola helps drive climate positioning across Moody’s with the goal to firmly establish the company and our offerings as a global leader in integrated climate risk analytics. 

Prior to joining Moody’s, Viola was Executive Director, Head of Climate Solutions, at ISS ESG, the unit of Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS) that helps financial market participants to understand, measure, and act on climate-related risks and opportunities across all asset classes. Viola joined ISS in 2017, following its acquisition of the financial industry business of South Pole Group, where she was a member of the team that developed the world’s largest database of company-level climate change data and pioneered the development of leading, standardized investment climate screening tools. Viola was named to the Forbes 30 Under 30: European Finance list in 2020. She holds a Master of Public Affairs from Sciences Po Paris and a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of St. Gallen (HSG), Switzerland.

Pedro Pizarro President and Chief Executive Officer Edison International

Pedro J. Pizarro is president and chief executive officer of Edison International, the parent company of Southern California Edison (SCE), one of the nation’s largest electric utilities. Edison International is also the parent company of Trio, a portfolio of competitive businesses providing integrated sustainability and energy advisory services to large commercial, industrial and institutional organizations in North America and Europe. He is a member of Edison International’s board of directors.

Pizarro served as president of SCE from October 2014 through May 2016, when he was elected president of Edison International. He was elected chief executive officer in October 2016. Previously, Pizarro was president of Edison Mission Energy (EME) and chaired its board of directors from 2011 until the sale of its assets to NRG Energy in April 2014. EME, a subsidiary of Edison International at the time, was an independent power producer that owned, leased, operated and sold energy and capacity from electric power generation facilities and engaged in hedging and energy trading activities in competitive power markets. Pizarro joined Edison International in 1999, moved to SCE in 2001 and progressed through several leadership roles before joining EME.

Before his work at Edison International and SCE, Pizarro was a senior engagement manager with McKinsey & Company in Los Angeles, providing management consulting services to energy, technology, engineering services and banking clients. There, he developed corporate strategy, handled mergers and acquisitions and oversaw operational and organizational engagements.

Pizarro earned a Ph.D. in chemistry from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and held National Science Foundation and Department of Defense graduate fellowships. He earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Harvard University.

Pizarro is co-chair of the Electricity Subsector Coordinating Council, the principal liaison between the federal government and the electric power industry to prepare for and respond to national-level disasters or threats to critical infrastructure. He is the immediate past chair of the Edison Electric Institute and continues to serve on its board, as well as the boards of Caltech and 3M.

Pizarro previously served on the boards of the Electric Power Research Institute, Analysis and Resilience Center for Systemic Risk, Argonne National Laboratory, Electric Power Supply Association, California Power Exchange, Colburn School, House Research Institute, Southern California Leadership Council and Western Energy Institute. He also represented the electric industry on the Secretary of Energy Advisory Board (SEAB), co-chaired the SEAB Innovation Working Group, and served on California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s Task Force on Business and Jobs Recovery.

Matt Kuchtyak Senior Vice President, Sustainable Finance Moody's Ratings

Matt Kuchtyak is Senior Vice President – Sustainable Finance for Moody’s Ratings. In this capacity, Matt is responsible for the origination and publication of thematic research related to the global sustainable finance markets. He has authored Moody’s market-leading quarterly sustainable finance market update since its inception in 2015 and has developed into a leading market voice on sustainable finance developments.

Matt leads outreach and engagement on sustainable finance issues, cultivating relationships with asset managers, asset owners, financial institutions, corporations, standard setters and other market participants. He frequently participates in high-profile outreach including investor briefings, webinars, third-party conferences and media engagements. Matt also represents MESG on a variety of industry initiatives, such as the International Capital Market Association’s Green Bond Principles (GBP) working groups.

Before his current role, Matt was an analyst on the ESG team at Moody’s Investors Service (MIS), where he advanced the rating agency’s efforts to systematically and transparently incorporate ESG considerations into its credit ratings. He was a key contributor to the development of MIS’s cross-sector ESG methodology, launch of ESG Issuer Profile Scores and Credit Impact Scores and the development of Carbon Transition Assessments. He was also the lead analyst for the MIS Green Bond Assessments. Previously, Matt was an analyst in the MIS US Public Finance Group, where he served as a lead analyst for a diverse portfolio of hospitals, public and private universities and other not-for-profits.

Matt is a corporate social responsibility (CSR) impact leader, working directly with Moody’s CSR team to shape, communicate and implement the firm's global CSR strategy and initiatives. He holds a B.A. in Economics and Political Science summa cum laude from Rutgers University-New Brunswick, and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

Elisa Parisi-Capone Vice President - Senior Analyst, Sovereign Risk Moody's Ratings

Elisa is Vice President – Senior Analyst at Moody’s Sovereign Risk Group in New York. She has lead and back-up analyst responsibilities for a number of North- and Sub-Saharan African sovereigns and supranationals. Her previous regional coverage also included sovereigns in Southeast Europe and in the CIS. Prior to joining Moody’s, Elisa spent two years at the Swiss Ministry of Finance in Berne, Switzerland, and seven years as Senior Analyst at Roubini Global Economic in New York covering the Euro area and Finance and Banking issues. Elisa holds an MA in Economics from New York University (NYU) and completed her undergraduate studies with a Lizentiat in Economics from the University of Zurich, Switzerland. Emre Tiftik Director, Sustainability Research, Global Policy Initiatives Institute of International Finance

Emre Tiftik is currently Director of Sustainable Research at the Institute of International Finance. He is the creator and lead author of the IIF’s Global Debt Monitor, a quarterly report focusing on the evolving dynamics of sectoral indebtedness across mature and emerging markets. Since joining the IIF in 2011, Mr. Tiftik has authored and co-authored numerous publications on global capital flows, including the IIF’s monthly Capital Flows Tracker and Portfolio Allocation Trends report. He is also the lead author of the IIF’s quarterly flagship Capital Flows to Emerging Markets report and serves as the IIF’s point of contact for inquiries about the IIF’s analysis on capital flows and global debt. Prior to joining the IIF, Mr. Tiftik served as a research assistant at the University of Maryland, College Park (UMD) and the Middle East Technical University (METU) in Turkey. Prior to that, he served as an analyst at the Ministry of Labour and Social Security of Turkey where he participated in the evaluation of grant projects under the Delegation of the European Union to Turkey. Mr. Tiftik has received several academic honors and awards including the Middle East Economic Association’s Ibn Khaldun Prize (2009), University of Maryland’s Graduate Fellowship (2008), and the Turkish Economic Association’s Research Price (2006). Swami Venkataraman, CFA Associate Managing Director, Sustainable Finance, Global Head of Assessments Moody's Ratings

Swami Venkataraman, CFA, is an Associate Managing Director in the Sustainable Finance group at Moody's Ratings. He manages a global team of analysts responsible for producing assessments and thematic research on the credentials of sustainability debt instruments and financing frameworks (Second Party Opinions) and the strength of entities carbon transition plans (Net Zero Assessments). He also leads related outreach efforts for Moody's with regulators, standard setters, investors, corporates and other market participants.

Swami regularly participates in high-profile working groups, conferences and media engagements. He is a member of the International Energy Agency's Finance Industry Advisory Board, the Institute for International Finance's (IIF) Sustainable Finance Working Group, the Executive Committee of the ESG Integrated Disclosure Project (IDP) for private capital markets and manages key external relationships for Moody's such as the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB), Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ) and Ceres. He has presented on climate finance topics at the 2022 UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) and at various initiatives of the World Bank.

Prior to this role, Swami led the team responsible for the systematic integration of ESG considerations - including climate - into all Moody's credit ratings and the launch of the Moody's Issuer Profile Scores (IPS) and Credit Impact Scores (CIS). Earlier, he was a Senior Vice President in the North American utilities and infrastructure team, with rating committee chair responsibilities. Before Joining Moody's in 2013, Swami was a Director of Project and Export finance with Standard Chartered bank in Asia. He has broad credit and banking expertise in power, clean energy, infrastructure and sustainable finance for over 25 years. He has worked in New York, San Francisco, London, Mumbai and Mexico City.

Swami is a CFA charter holder, with a B.Tech in Electronics Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT),  Madras and an M.B.A. in Finance and Information systems from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM),Calcutta.

Becky Leeper Senior Director - Strategy & Innovation Moody's

Becky Leeper is a Senior Director Strategy & Innovation for Climate at Moody’s, working with insurance and financial services organizations on deploying catastrophe models to understand climate and climate change risk. At Moody's RMS she leads client and partnership work to maximize opportunities for our climate models and data. This includes promoting the use of Moody’s RMS models, analytics, and data across a variety of climate use cases within banking, CRE, investment management, corporates, and governments. By clearly understanding the impact from climate change, these organizations can report, manage, and respond when a large event such as a flood, wildfire, earthquake, or hurricane happens.

Prior to RMS, Becky spent more than a decade partnering with financial firms in the use of models for valuation and risk management within fixed income. Becky holds a BS in computer science from Duke University.

Mitch Carpen Climate Risk Executive KeyBank

Mitch Carpen is the Climate Risk Executive at KeyBank and currently leading their Climate Risk Framework buildout.

In his previous role at the Green Climate Fund in South Korean he served as the head of the Office of Risk Management, Compliance and Sustainability where he built up a team and the due diligence capacity to allow the Fund to significantly scale up its portfolio of climate change transactions in developing countries. 

Before joining the Green Climate Fund, he worked with the State of New Jersey as an Executive Director to startup an infrastructure bank under the Chris Christie administration that focused on rebuilding after the devastating effects of Hurricane Sandy by financing resilient energy assets at key facilities and infrastructure. 

Before this he was an Assistant General Manager at Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi in Singapore where he led the startup of the risk function for their newest regional headquarter. He also held senior risk and finance positions with Societe Generale’s in New York City, Instinet Corporation and Prudential Financial. 

Mitch has a masters degree in Mathematics of Finance from Columbia University in New York City, and a masters and bachelors degree in Economics and Information Science from Rutgers University in New Jersey. 

Andaleeb Hossain Head of Climate Risk for Credit Morgan Stanley

Andaleeb Hossain is a seasoned credit risk professional with 25+ years of experience leveraging advanced data analytics to manage credit risk and drive profitable business growth.  As the Head of Climate Risk for Credit at Morgan Stanley, Andaleeb has spearheaded the development of frameworks to quantify, monitor and incorporate the effects of physical risk into risk management processes, and oversees the development of transition risk factors into credit risk management. In addition, Andaleeb also heads up stress testing and credit analytics for the Wealth Management lending business.

Andaleeb has led model development roles at BMO and GE Capital and spent 16 years at American Express managing credit risk for card portfolios across the US and EMEA markets.

Andaleeb holds a BA Hons degree in Economics from the University of Sussex and an MBA from the London Business School.

Jennifer Chang Vice President – Senior Credit Officer, Sustainable Finance Moody’s Ratings

Jennifer Chang is a Vice President – Senior Credit Officer in Moody’s Sustainable Finance Group, with a primary focus in physical climate risks and materiality as it pertains to credit risks across various industries.

Prior to this group, Jennifer was the Public Power Sector Lead in the Global Project and Infrastructure Finance Group, and covered a range of infrastructure sectors including transportation, social infrastructure and power projects in the Americas. She also led new power project finance and public-private partnership rating assignments.

Jennifer launched the Infrastructure in Emerging Markets’ series, and is the author of several reports on PPPs, power and drillship transactions including special comments on airport concessions, express tolled lanes, credit enhancements and power project carbon transition. She recently published climate-related reports on physical climate risk assessments and credit impact of urban floods.

She is the receiver of three Moody’s Research Awards, including the report on Hydrogen – Electric Utilities and Power Projects. She is a frequent speaker and presenter at various industry conferences, including the US Department of Energy – Hydrogen Shot Summit in 2021. Prior to joining Moody’s, Jennifer worked at the World Bank as an energy finance specialist in the Latin American and Caribbean and Africa regions where she helped co-author the Brazil Low Carbon Case Study report, and worked on large scale electricity distribution rehabilitation projects in Brazil, Honduras and Malawi. Prior to the World Bank, Jennifer worked at BNP Paribas covering North American utilities, and at the Royal Bank of Scotland and at Credit Agricole covering media and telecom. She has a Bachelor of Science and Business Administration in Finance and Accounting from Drexel University and a Masters from the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University (SIPA) with a concentration in International Energy Management and Policy. She is currently pursuing a Certification in Sustainable Water Management from Columbia University.

Nick Samuels Senior Vice President, States Ratings Team Moody's Ratings

Nick Samuels is a Senior Vice President for the States and High Profile Ratings Team covering credits for the state of Texas, New York City, and the District of Columbia.

Prior to joining Moody’s, Nick worked for the National Association of State Budget Officers analyzing state fiscal and expenditure trends. Nick holds a BA degree in government from Skidmore College and a Master’s in Public Administration from the George Washington University.

Sarah Hibler Associate Managing Director, Property and Casualty Insurance Moody's Ratings

Sarah Hibler is an Associate Managing Director in the Property and Casualty Group at Moody’s Ratings. She is responsible for managing analysts who cover a broad array of P&C insurers, reinsurers and insurance brokers. Prior to joining Moody’s in 1997, Ms. Hibler was a senior manager in the mergers & acquisitions practice of Deloitte & Touche LLP in New York City. At Deloitte & Touche, she also worked for a number of years in both the New York and London offices providing auditing and consulting services to insurance companies.

Ms. Hibler holds a degree in business administration from the University of Michigan and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Jeffrey Cassella Vice President - Senior Credit Officer Moody's Ratings

Jeffrey Cassella is a Vice President - Senior Credit Officer in Moody’s Global Infrastructure Finance Group, joining the Utilities team at the beginning of 2013. He Is responsible for a portfolio consisting of electric and gas utilities. Prior to joining the Utilities Group, Jeff worked in the Corporate Finance Group’s Credit Policy department as well as the Technology, Media and Telecommunications team covering transaction processors and other IT services companies. Prior to joining Moody’s in 2006, Jeff was a manager in PriceWaterhouseCooperstrans action services group. In that capacity he managed multidisciplinary teams that conducted financial due diligence on mergers & acquisitions and financial statement analysis for clients across a number of different industry sectors. Jeff holds a B.S. in Accounting from The College of New Jersey and an M.B.A. in Finance from New York University’s Stern School of Business. Jeff is a Certified Public Accountant.

Katie Rismanchi Deputy Director, Regulatory Affairs Department Institute of International Finance

Katie Rismanchi is a Deputy Director within the IIF’s Regulatory Affairs Department, working on a range of global regulatory topics with a particular focus on sustainable finance policy and industry practices. In this role, Katie engages with the IIF's global membership department from across the financial industry as well as standard setters and other policymakers. Prior to joining the IIF, Katie worked for seven years as an economist and prudential policy expert at the Bank of England. She worked on a range of microprudential and macroprudential topics with a focus on capital and leverage standards. During that time, she was seconded as a financial stability expert to the European Systemic Risk Board (ESRB) in Frankfurt. Katie holds an MA degree in Economics and an MPhil degree in Economics from the University of Cambridge.

Tony Liou Co-founder and President Partner Energy

Tony Liou is co-founder and President of Partner Energy, a division of Partner Engineering and Science, Inc. Partner Energy helps clients identify, capitalize and implement energy efficiency, sustainability, and ESG projects that meet business goals. Tony has worked for over 20 years in real estate acquisition and underwriting, engineering design, start-ups, and sales and marketing. When capital and public policy began to incentivize green project investment, Tony built Partner Energy with a team of professional engineers, architects, and sustainability consultants who know how to apply the technologies and programs that can make these investments profitable.

Mr. Moss is a Principal in the Ares Environmental, Social and Governance Group and leads ESG for the global Real Estate Group. Prior to joining Ares in 2022, Mr. Moss was a Senior Vice President, Operations and Sustainability at Brixmor Property Group, where he focused on developing and overseeing their ESG program and climate change strategy, directed portfolio wide operations and sustainability initiatives, and led environmental risk and liability management. Previously, Mr. Moss was a Senior Project Manager at Roux Associates, Inc, where he focused on advising clients in a variety of industries related to legacy contamination issues and environmental aspects of property transactions and development. Mr. Moss holds a B.A. from Colgate University in Geology and an M.E.S. from the University of Pennsylvania in Environmental Studies.
