Approximately 2.3 billion individuals, or 29 percent of the world’s population, live in locations susceptible to more than 10 cm of river (fluvial) or rain (pluvial) flooding at the 100-year return period, per Moody’s RMS estimates. Also, about 240 million people face a similar risk from coastal flooding.
