Naoki Shimizu is an Associate Managing Director – Head of Relationship Management, Commercial Group (Japan). In this role, he leads business development and manages issuer client as well as intermediary relationships in Japan. As Japan Country Manager, he manages the operating environment for the Moody’s Japan business and maintains senior relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
Naoki joined Moody’s in 2012 initially with the Moody’s Analytics sales team in Tokyo before moving to assume his current position in 2018 at Moody’s Investors Service - Commercial Group. He has been a member of the APAC Diversity Council since 2022 and is passionate about building an inclusive workplace.
Prior to joining Moody’s, Naoki worked at Citi for 12 years, primarily as a structured finance arranger both in New York and Tokyo. He started his career at a Japanese government aid financial institution to support the economic and social development of emerging market countries.
Naoki holds a bachelor’s degree in agricultural engineering from University of Tokyo and a master-of-arts degree in international economics from Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) at Johns Hopkins University.
Ryutaro Kono is Chief Japan Economist and Head of Global Markets Research Japan, responsible for analyzing and forecasting macroeconomic and policy developments in Japan.
Prior to joining BNP Paribas, Ryutaro was a senior economist at Dai-Ichi-Life Research Institute in Tokyo, where he was in charge of analyzing the macro economy and monetary policy. After graduating with a degree in economics from Yokohama National University, Ryutaro did a stint with Sumitomo Bank (currently Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation) before joining Daiwa International Capital Management (DICM) as an economist working on FX and interest rate forecasts and the US and Japanese economies. While at DIMC, Ryutaro went to New York as senior economist (in charge of analyzing the US economy and monetary policy) and then returned to Tokyo to become the senior portfolio manager (in charge of Pension Management Department). From July 2023, he has been a Visiting Senior Research Fellow of the Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology, the University of Tokyo.
Ryutaro has deep expertise in monetary and fiscal policy, and has worked as a member on various government panels dealing with fiscal affairs. Ryutaro is a frequent commentator on economic issues in the local press and television and has been repeatedly recognized as one of Japan’s top economists (voted No.1 3 consecutive years from 2021 and 10 of the last 15 years by Nikkei Veritas) and named top 5 forecasters for FY 2005, 2007, 2012, 2014 2015, 2020 by ESP Forecast (which has been currently operated by Japan Center for Economic Research).
Fabian Astic serves on Moody’s Ratings Senior Leadership Team as Managing
Director and Global Head of Decentralized Finance & Digital Assets, Cyber Credit Risk,
and AI Analytics. He leads the group responsible for the rating agency’s preparedness
for the digitalization of the global economy, driven by transformative technologies
like AI and blockchain. Specific areas of focus for the group include analytics and
research, market and policy development, and process, data, and technology.
Fabian is widely recognized for his expertise in both traditional finance and digital
finance, often speaking at high-profile industry conferences and contributing to
leading trade association events and podcasts. He serves on the Digital Asset Markets
Subcommittee of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s Global Markets
Advisory Committee, which focuses on digital finance and asset tokenization, and on
the board of QuantCube Technology, an AI company providing predictive analytics
and economic forecasts from alternative data. Additionally, he is the Secretary of the
board of the Hetrick-Martin Institute, a Moody’s partner, which supports LGBTQ
youth. In 2018, Fabian was named as one of Business Equality Magazine’s “40 LGBTQ
Leaders Under 40.”
Prior to his current role, Fabian established and led the group responsible for
developing quantitative models and analytical tools used in Moody’s rating process, as
well as innovation activities, including advanced capabilities in machine learning and
artificial intelligence.
Since joining Moody’s in 2006, Fabian has held roles in Credit Policy Research and the
Structured Finance Group, analyzing various structured credit products and
contributing to rating methodologies.
Fabian holds a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics with a focus on Mathematical Finance,
as well as a Master’s Degree in Mathematics Applied to Economic Sciences and a
Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Mathematics and Social Sciences from Université Paris
Dauphine. He also holds a Master’s Degree in Science and Executive Engineering from
the Ecole des Mines de Paris, where he specialized in Quantitative Finance
Alka Anbarasu is an Associate Managing Director in the Financial Institutions Group in Asia. Based in Singapore, Alka is responsible for Moody's analytical teams covering ratings and research on banks, insurance companies, and non-bank financial institutions in Japan, ASEAN and Indian Sub-continent. Alka also coordinates the Global Financial Institution Group's efforts on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) scoring and research. Alka is a regular speaker at Moody's market briefings, external conferences podcasts and broadcast media. She is very active in promoting Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I) initiatives and is a passionate impact leader for Moody's Community Impact initiatives in Asia.

Prior to joining Moody's, she worked in the investment banking division of J.P. Morgan in London and Mumbai and ING Vysya Bank in India. Tetsuya Yamamoto is a Vice President – Senior Credit Officer with the Financial Institutions Group of Moody’s Japan. He covers ratings across a portfolio of Japanese megabanks, major banks, regional banks, securities firms, government related financial institutions, and finance companies.
Prior to Moody’s, Tetsuya worked as a senior portfolio manager for Tokyo Star Bank. Prior to Tokyo Star Bank, Tetsuya worked for Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (formerly Sumitomo Bank) as a senior analyst at Corporate Research Department in Tokyo and Hong Kong, covering a wide range of sectors including food & beverage, retail & wholesale, telecommunications, steel, chemical and financial institutions.
Tetsuya holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Kyoto University.
Tomoya Suzuki is a Vice President – Senior Credit Officer with Moody’s Financial Institutions Group in Tokyo.
He covers ratings across a portfolio of Japanese banks and property and casualty insurers.
