The Bigger Picture
Huge growth in wind and solar capacity is needed if decarbonisation targets are to be met. Turbines and panels will not be enough. Renewables alone cannot deliver energy security and stability, and absent a major technology advancement, baseload and flexible generation will remain a necessity. Customer needs in hard-to-decarbonise sectors must be addressed. To accommodate different generation and consumption models, networks must adapt in the face of the transition. Affordability and geopolitical risks cannot be ignored and will inevitably challenge plans.
