After starting in Mergers and Acquisitions at BNP Paribas in London and New York and setting up funding platforms for Small and Medium enterprises (SMEs) in an independent Structuring advisory firm in Paris, he joined the Structured Finance department of Fitch Ratings in Paris and subsequently in the South African office. Yohan rated a wide portfolio of securitisations and other Structured Finance instruments (e.g. Covered bonds) across various assets classes (ABS, RMBS, ABCP, CLNs etc.) and jurisdictions (France, UK, Spain, Belgium, Luxembourg, South Africa etc.).

Yohan then moved to Investec Bank Ltd as a Debt Capital Markets Structurer. His mandate was to set up additional funding platforms for the Private Bank division of the bank as well as its external clients. In 2011, Yohan joined the Debt Capital Markets team of the Transaction Capital Group. He participated to the listing of the Bayport Medium Term Note Programme and set up recurring funding platforms for Transaction Capital’s subsidiary SA Taxi.

In 2017, Yohan joined GCR Ratings as Group Head of its Structured Finance Ratings department where he manages GCR’s portfolio of Structured Finance transactions across Africa and is responsible for the development of GCR’s rating methodologies. He also heads the West African office of GCR.

Raphaele Auberty is an AVP in Moody’s Sovereign Risk Group, having joined in 2018. Based in Paris, she covers a range of African sovereigns, including Tunisia, Zambia and Mauritius.

Prior to joining Moody’s Raphaele was a Country Risk Analyst at BMI Research (Fitch), focusing on the Middle East and North Africa.

Raphaele holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Sciences Po Paris and a dual Master’s Degree from Sciences Po Paris and the London School of Economics in International Political Economy.

Corné Els started his Debt Capital Markets career at Eskom Finance Company (SOC) Ltd as a Securitisation Officer. During his tenure he managed the Nqaba Finance 1 (RF) Ltd RMBS Securitisation vehicle from June 2006 to May 2013. He was responsible for the day-to-day management, servicing reporting, accounting, analysis and investor liaisons for the vehicle. Nqaba Finance 1 won the EMEA Finance ‘Best securitisation vehicle of the year’ (February 2012) and The Banker ‘Deals of the Year 2014 – Africa’ (April 2014) for the May 2013 refinance.

In June 2013 he started at Global Credit Ratings as a Structured Finance Analyst responsible for reviewing several structured finance transactions across multiple asset classes in South Africa, Kenya, Ghana and Uganda. In March 2021 he transitioned to the Financial Institutions team as a Senior Analyst and was subsequently promoted to the Sector Head of Financial Institutions in 2023.

As Sector Head, Corné is responsible for overseeing the analytical work of a team of eight analysts located in South Africa, Zimbabwe, Mauritius and Kenya who between them process more than 115 ratings per year.

Christos joined Moody’s banking team in Cyprus in April 2007, after previous experience in asset and portfolio management. Christos is a CFA charter holder and holds a master’s degree in International Securities, Investment and Banking(Distinction) and a bachelor’s degree in Management (1st Class Honours).Over the years Christos has led the assignment of a high number of new Moody’s ratings in Sub-Saharan Africa, including in South Africa, Mauritius, Kenya, Tanzania, the DRC, and Angola. He also has extensive experience in covering a number of countries across the Middle East and Eastern Europe. Christos has been a key speaker at Moody’s and third party events, discussing Moody’s banking system outlooks and views on financial inclusion, innovation and technology. He has also conducted high-profile broadcasts and other media interviews. Christos is now the lead banking analyst for Cyprus, Jordan, Kenya, Ghana, Mauritius and for a portfolio of financial institutions in Saudi Arabia. He is a frequent author of topical research on these banking systems and also has covered topics on financial inclusion, innovation and technology.

Lucie oversees Sovereign Ratings in Africa and is the lead analyst for several sovereigns and supranational issuers in the region. Prior to that, she has covered a range of European sovereign credits, spanning both advanced and emerging markets, as well as subsovereign credits. Prior to joining Moody’s in 2007, Lucie spent two years at the French Treasury in the division responsible for projections and analyses of France’s government finances. Lucie holds a postgraduate degree in Probability and Statistics and a Master’s degree in Economics.
