Join Gaurav Ganguly, Senior Director - Economic Research, and team of economists for a bumper two-part webinar on Europe and the UK.
Part 1: A cautious recovery in Europe (beginning at 3 PM)
For the last few years, the end of summer has coincided with increased concerns around the resilience of growth in Europe. It is no different this year and as the main summer holiday season nears an end, and as tourism related support fades, we ask the key question - will growth pick up or will it fizzle out? While the European economy is in a far better place than it was a year ago, several weaknesses remain, and the economic outlook is clouded with uncertainty. The first part of this webinar discusses our European outlook where we:
- Discuss growth drivers and explain why recession risks have receded despite sub-par performance.
- Explain the factors influencing inflation and the difficulties with gauging monetary policy actions.
- Discuss the key risks facing Europe.
Part 2: UK fiscal scenarios (beginning at 3:40 PM)
The new UK government faces significant challenges. It has promised to reform the economy and raise growth while also maintaining fiscal discipline. These are ambitious goals, especially given high public sector debt, lack of fiscal space and economic weakness. More taxes are inevitable but the government is also promising planning reform and investment. In the second part of this webinar, we provide our views on the UK economy, explore alternative fiscal options for the UK government and examine their economic impact. Join our economists to hear more about:
- Inflation, monetary policy and growth in the baseline view of the UK economy.
- The UK’s Net Zero targets, the investment requirements and the UK government’s investment proposals.
- The economic impact of alternative scenarios for public spending, taxation and investment.
